“Aha’s” or what some refer to as “defining moments” almost always integrate with what was before it appeared. That is, the experience is neatly stored in memory, but the safety of the known is too compelling to alter present-moment living entirely. Oddly, such moments happen free of any known constraints, e.g., religion, beliefs, faith, hopes, philosophy, whatever, and are free and clear of any previous thought or recollection. Even the mind’s constant banter is silent, but, in its incessant way, it fires back up and drags the pristine into the muddy waters of “how it has always been,” and the “moment” gives way to the safety of the known. If your “aha” comes in the context of what you think you know or believe, it’s not an aha. It’s a confirmation to your mind that, while out of control, it thinks it is in control. In other words, don’t let what you know or think integrate with the mystery presented in the still, clean waters of silence. “Defining moments” have no definition. Neither should you.

Awareness is indefensible. That is, you have no argument for it that stands up to your or anyone else’s sense of reason. It just cannot be reconciled with other forms of collective organization, institutions, or philosophy. It’s just you aware of YOU and utterly free of attachment to anything. If you think you know, you don’t. If you know, you know you don’t. Still, you are “in the world” and can fully participate in it, but you will do so without attachment, especially without argument. Awareness is liberation!

The new-age nonsense of surrounding yourself with people like you or those with characteristics you would like to emulate is a surefire way to separate yourself from reality. It is no different than living your life in front of a mirror that reflects only you all the time. Do you see? The reaction of everyone outside your sphere of friendship and commonality is as essential to living as your view of them should be to them. The world is not whole, and you are not “one” with it if you exclude those who are not like you. Quit looking at the world as a safe little place you make up, that looks like whatever it is that looks back at you in the mirror. Looking at mirrors is a shallow, boring life; the real view is a room with lots of windows. Open yours now and be open to everyone.

If life is an illusion (it is), then trying to fix yourself is an illusion too. In other words, that which assesses the need to fix, by whatever means, is also the fixer, and it is the fixer who creates the illusion it seeks to fix. You do see the folly of this, right?  It’s like the primary rule of “wing walking. That is, never let go with one hand until you are holding on to something else with the other. However, in so doing, you are still “walking the wing” of the same airplane. To see the real, you must void yourself, altogether, of the unreal, and the unreal is everything your mind holds on to, e.g., literally, everything that passes through it.
Letting go is not a leap of faith, as that would just be affixing yourself to another illusion. It is a leap into the abyss where safety and security give way to mystery and breathless wonder. It is anyone’s guess how you fall or where you land if you land at all, but oh, what a thrill you’ll have. And that is as it should be!

“If your lips are movin’, your ego is groovin’.” Everything you say, regardless of eloquence, beauty, or intent, is ego. What you write, think, or dream is ego. What you do that is kind, unkind, charitable, uncharitable, etc., is ego. Do you see? Human exchange of any kind is ego, and when you get that, once and for all, you will see the miracle of life as opposed to the narrow interpretation of it, e.g., egoic interpretation. There simply is no path to awareness through your mind; it just talks too much (mine too). Still, this is the human experience, so it can never be turned off, but it can be turned down. Focus more of your “seeing” the world on what you hear rather than what comes through your eyes. While it will not rid you of ego, it will undoubtedly have it talking less. That is always a superior, less egoic, “groove.”

“You are ‘worthy’ of your dreams” is often said in new age speak. However, believing yourself worthy of anything is surrendering to the idea that anything you think or dream is more significant than what you are now, and that is an affirmation of unworthiness. It is not possible to know joy and happiness when hopes and dreams determine “worth.” Quality of life is not the measure of what you can be; it is what you are now, stripped bare and clean of every whim that crosses your imagination. You just can’t know YOU until you are free of any concept of worthiness. The greatest miracle of all is what you are in the midst of what is now. You are not in any way worthy of it! YOU are, however, “IT,” and that is a richness that has no measure.

“I have a right to; fill in the blank.” Your statement of rights is a statement of your imprisonment. A declaration of beliefs, desires, and expectations of something “out there” that you have determined needs to be given to you and respected by the giver is not freedom. Bound and gagged, you are free if you are without attachment to anything that is given out of respect for your so-called rights. Your freedom lies in the release of anything you believe you have a right to.

One of the many aspects of present-moment awareness is that it challenges all the norms you are conditioned to accept. Most will argue and resist those challenges, but the more aware you are, the more apt you will see your possession by the unreal. Nothing holds you except those things you hold. Let them go, and what you think you have “rights” to give way to what is, and that will set you free.

You possess no thought, dream, hope, or belief that exceeds the moment in which you presently live, nor does any collective movement to which you subscribe, no matter how noble and righteous you believe it to be. “All that is” only has reality in YOU, and any “thought” of the real just isn’t real. You are the creative center of the universe, but it is not your thoughts or mind that creates. The only way to “know” the Creator, e.g., YOU, is to embrace your creations, and that is literally everything. Love it all or miss it all. It’s not a choice; it just is.

“I choose to surround myself with like-minded people who, like me, generally believe as I do, love and accept me as I am, and positively lift me. Comfortable and safe in my world that avoids contrariness, I have few, if any, challenges to my ego or self-esteem. After all, it’s what new age spirituality suggests I do. However, in so choosing, I fully accept that I am missing out on the more significant part of human life and living: a rich and diverse world, full of myriad philosophies, tastes, beliefs, lifestyles, cultures, art, and colors, etc., etc., etc.” Do you see?
Choosing is exclusion, denial, and blindness, while life and living are a package deal. They cannot be what you want them to be because what you want is your own prison cell. “Tear down these walls!” You will be stunned, enriched, and enlivened by what and who is on the other side!

The answer to “knowing’s” great quest is “not knowing.” That is, “nothing” is the response of the universe to everything. Without YOU, there is no “everything.” Let “nothing” be on your mind today, and “knowing” quietly and spectacularly unfolds.
