The flashlight in a dark cave will always light up something regardless of where it points. If we anthropomorphize the flashlight, it would conclude that “light” shines everywhere because everywhere it points, there is light, even though we all know that is not the case. In actual human terms, if your attention (flashlight) only shines on a certain kind of television or radio program, news broadcast, political agenda, social cause, health code, religion, philosophy, etc., to conclude that you have light enough to know everything, including where you have no light at all would be starkly erroneous, and most would admit it. However, while admitting it, few do it. Do you see?

The direction your attention points in is only a direction. It is not the whole, and to see only your direction is a massive exclusion of reality. You could even say that what you focus on is unreal, an illusion. You already know that there is a lot of “otherness” around you all the time. To factor it out because your attention points somewhere else is your loss and humanity’s loss. Awareness includes otherness, even if you cannot see it. Don’t let yourself miss what the flashlight (you) can’t see. The best part of living is likely where it’s darkest.

Your greatest limitation, everyone’s that is, is not what you fear but what you believe. Beliefs are an assault on any possibility of being present, and the filter straining out the real so that the unreal (beliefs) remains intact. Clarity is clear, and what you hold in your mind, believe, or don’t believe, think possible or impossible smudges the window of reality. Awareness is only known through optics without the taint and dinge of what your mind wants you to believe is.

Lose them (beliefs), and the window’s new transparency lets in new light that exposes any fear as a shackle to living more abundantly. I promise, then again, don’t “believe” a word I say!

There is no right or wrong when confronting the unknown, and the present moment is always an unknown revealing itself without consideration of your attempts to overlay it with the “once known, e.g., previous experience.” Do you see? Humans impulsively compare “what is” to “what was” and, based on the assessment of prior experience (right, wrong, good, bad, etc.), end up making a mess of the only possibility available to experience reality.

You can only do what you are doing when you are doing it, and the joy you experience is when “doing it” is free of your comparison of it to something that no longer is. In other words, nowness is the brand-new playground of reality. So, go play!

No one can know what the universe won’t tell, and it doesn’t reveal much, leaving what we think we know as little more than a melding of theory, conjecture, and make-believe. All you can know is that “what YOU are” creates an exquisite, cosmic soup with no recipe but contains the most beautiful ingredients and delicious flavors. You’ll “get it” when “what you know” is no longer known. Do you see?

What you know is the chemical additives and artificial flavors mixed in with an already tasty and healthy entrée. You don’t need them to relish the meal. All you need do is to be present at the table, open to surprise and adventure. Bon appétit!

Joy thrives regardless of circumstances. That is your circumstances or anyone else’s that you think is better or worse than yours. Having or getting adds confusion and anxiety to a mind beset with more of what it doesn’t have, and joy, happiness, and contentment are the cost. Realizing “what YOU are” is inexplicable joy carried evermore into where you are regardless of the circumstances. In other words, YOU’ve got it all. Why not enjoy it?

Making life work requires an act of love so great that the impossibility of knowing how to do it never prevents you from living it with starry-eyed wonder and amazement. Knowing that you may never know is the only fuel required to make it work, and loving any outcome the joy you experience, having done so. Love your living, and life always works.

Happiness is not a derivative of your ability to judge the differences between this or that. It exists regardless of your distinctions but is most apparent when you don’t make any distinctions. Do you see?

It is not possible to dive naked into a pool of water and not get wet. Likewise, happiness is a pool that only asks that you plunge into its depths without judging how wet you will get or what that wetness consists of. Life is swimming; even if you don’t know how to swim, always take the plunge. See you at the pool!

You and you alone are what’s possible in this moment and that which encompasses the infinite. You may critique the expanse with remnants of the past casting shadows over your awareness or overlook it with alternate dreams of something else, but still, at this moment, you hold it all even while you are busy missing it.

Awareness judges nothing and even holds space for all that you think otherwise and waits, eternally if need be, for you to recognize YOU as the birthing of all that is NOW. Clouds are not separate from the sky they form in. YOU are the sky and the beholder of it. Anything “other” is impossible.

We see with our bodies but limit that seeing to the eyes. Close your eyes and experience the quiet “knowing” only your body can reveal. It will amaze you!

January 1st, 2024 Timeline

9:00 – 9:45 AM – Dutifully and diligently wrote down and articulated 2024 New Year’s resolutions. I carefully mounted them in a frame and placed them in a visually accessible, prominent place where I would see them daily.

10:00 AM – All resolutions are broken, removed from the frame, and thrown in the trash, along with any commitment to reinstate them.

10:01 AM – There’s still plenty of time to experience a fantastic day! Perfect. Happy New Year, everyone.
